Red Squirrels Blog 26.01.18

This week in challenge time we have been creative. We drew designs of our junk model and then we created them using the junk that we brought in from home. (Pixie)

Lenny has shown resilience during writing this week. He had to think about how he could use the phrases he had thought of on Thursday in his writing today.

Harry C believes we have been curious learners this week when we were learning about the word camouflage. We looked at images with animals in them and we had to try to spot them.

Codey thinks we have all been resilient writers this week because we had think carefully about what we were including in our descriptions of a setting.

We have also been learning about bar charts and tally charts this week in Maths. We asked each other what our favourite animal in the rainforest would be and created a tally chart. We then used this data to create a bar chart.

We have also been practising our times tables using an app on the ipads!

Red Squirrels Blog 19.01.18

We were all curious on Monday when a parcel arrived in Otter’s classroom and white footprints were beside it. We guess what was going to be inside the package.

Lenny was creative when he drew his pictures to show what lives in the Rainforest, desert and in the Polar Regions. We have been reflective and resilient because we had to go back to our work and remember what animals live in the different layers of the rainforest.

Mia was collaborative when she worked with Elsie, Olivia and Lenny during challenge time. They made hummingbirds using multi-link and began to create a scene.

Abigail thinks the whole class has been collaborative this week. We showed this when we learnt our new story plan called ‘Lost and Found’ we thought of different actions together.

Codey has shown curiosity this week in guided reading, he has found out how snakes eat their food. He discovered they eat them whole!

We have been learning to write questions this week. Olivia believes we have been curious because we asked the little boy from Lost and Found questions.

Red Squirrels Blog 12.01.18

Elsie thinks we have been reflective when we were planning our acrostic poem. We thought of ideas in a thought bubble and then planned an acrostic poem. Lexi thinks we also showed resilience when we were thinking of our ideas.

In our challenge time we have shown we were creative when we made paper snow globes. (Harry C)

Abigail believes we were resilient in dance this week because we had to keep practising different dance moves to look like a penguin.

We have also shown we are curious learners because we used a Thesaurus to look up different words that have the same meaning.

Lenny showed he was curious in the snowman Maths challenge. Lenny had to work out how many arms 6 snowmen would have altogether?

We were resourceful in Geography because we had to use an Atlas to help us find continents and the oceans of the world.

Red Squirrels Blog 17.11.17

Lexi has shown resilience in Maths this when she was trying to find different ways to make one amount. Lexi didn’t give up and she kept on trying.

In our library time Abigail believes we were creative because all the children made a mask or a party hat for our Pudsey Picnic!

Jayden thinks we were all curious when we learnt about how far the fire spread. We wanted know where it started and how far it spread and how long the fire lasted for.

Elsie feels like she has been collaborative with Lenny this week because they tried to make different amounts using coins in Maths.

In Maths on Friday we had to use our measuring skills to measure the different body parts of Pudsey the Bear. Lucy thinks we have been creative and enthusiastic.

 

Red Squirrels Blog 10.11.17

In Art we learnt about the artist Jackson Pollock. Lucy creative when  she drew a picture in the style of Pollock. She used a black felt tip to draw the curved lines and then chose 4 different colours to fill in some of the spaces created by the overlapping lines.

Isobel has shown resilience this week in Maths. At first she was unsure of how to tell the time but she hasn’t given up and is taking a clock home to practise with!

Lenny thinks all of blue group worked collaboratively when they used metre sticks to measure the length of our school hall. They had to work together to make sure they were measuring accurately.

In topic we have shown we are curious learners because we have lots of different questions we would like to find out the answers to about the Great Fire of London. (Harry C)

This morning at 11 o’clock we had one minutes silence to remember people who have fought in wars. We think this shows that we are reflective. (Miss Firth)

On Friday morning Maisie thinks Squirrels were creative when they made a Poppy for Remembrance Day.

Squirrels Class Blog 3.11.17

In challenge time I was creative when I made my firework picture using 2D shapes. I used a circle as the moon. I used a rectangle, a triangle and a small circle to create a rocket. (Isobel)

We were creative and collaborative when they made The Houses of Parliament in the construction area. We used an image of the building to make sure we had all of the parts in the right place. (Harry C and Robert)

Ellie-Mai and Codey were curious in Maths when they were trying to find the fractions of 2D shapes.

Pixie showed resilience this week when her firework picture made from 2D shapes did not go to plan the first time. She corrected her picture and kept on trying until she was happy with it.

All of Red group showed they were collaborative in their library session. They worked together to read stories and asked each other questions. Miss Claxton was so impressed they all received a silver sticker!

Elsie thinks all of Red Squirrels have been collaborative, reflective and creative when we have been using our Talk for Writing to learn our new instruction text called ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’.

Red Squirrels Blog 6.10.17

This week in Maths we have been learning about multiplying. We started by using equipment to help us, we then learnt how to use arrays. We have to remember to make sure our dots are in straight lines. We also made arrays during outdoor learning using stones, sticks, leaves and pinecones.

In English we have started to plan our own version of Little Red Riding Hood. We have used our boxing up method and an S plan. We have changed the main character, the stetting, who the character is visiting, what is put into the basket and who is the hero at the end of the story.

In challenge time we have been making wolf mask using card, tissue paper, crepe paper and felt. They look fantastic up on our window!

In Topic lessons this week we have been learning about different puppets for example finger puppets, hand puppets and string puppets. We learnt how each one is used and the skills you might need to make them move.

We then made our own spoon puppets. We made Red Riding Hood, Granny and the Wolf. In groups we then performed the story of Little Red Riding Hood using our spoon puppets it was so much fun!

Red Squirrels Blog 22.09.17

This week in Maths we have been partitioning numbers using numicon and multi-link, we know that numbers two-digit numbers can be split into tens and ones and three-digit numbers are split into hundreds, tens and ones.

By the end of the week we had started to add numbers together using number line resources and blank number lines.

We listened to the story of Little Red Riding Hood in English. We wrote character descriptions using adjectives to describe the Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood.

We have sketched wolves in Art using pastels, charcoal, wax crayons or sketching pencils, we are very pleased with the artwork we have created. The pictures are going to be used in our hall display.

In Science we have been learning about the different food groups and what foods we eat to have a balanced diet. We have drawn pictures to go onto our food pyramid.

We have also learnt about physical and human features in Geography and identified them in the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The trees are physical. (Elsie) Grandma’s house is human because it has been built. (Lenny)
