Otters Class Blog – 27.9.19

In English we have been reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have done lots of work around the story.  We drew a map of her walk through the woods, we described the wolf and thought of lots of amazing adjectives.

In topic we have been learning all about Florence Nightingale.  She lived from 1820 to 1910 and came from a wealthy family.  She had to attend lots of parties, but all she really wanted to do was make people better and be a nurse.  To start with her parents did not want her to be a nurse, but after she had nursed members of her own family, they supported her choice.

In PHSE we talked about belonging and thought about how it feels to be left out.  We thought of ways to include everyone and to make sure that everyone has a turn.

For maths this week we have been subtracting using different strategies.  We have learnt how to use a blank number line.  To take away we have to jump backwards to make sure we are counting down.

Today we went swimming and we were learning how to swimming on our backs and some of us were using ‘sinkers’ which we had to either catch in the water or fetch from the bottom of the pool.

Otter’s Blog Our First Week complete!

We have enjoyed our first PE lesson in Year 2.  Evie liked it when we played a game where we had to race against our partner to see who could get back to our place in the line first.

Lacey liked it when we played a maths game. We had to roll a die to draw out an otter. For example, when we rolled a 4 we had to draw a tail.

Isla enjoyed sorting pictures of heroes and villains. We had to think about why they were a hero or villain.

Charlie liked learning about how to become a student council officer. Today we have been given nomination forms to complete. Voting for officers will take place next week.

Prim liked painting ourselves using the watercolour paints. For our skin tone we had to colour mix too.

Thalia enjoyed making our own talent paper chain. We then joined all of our chains together to make one long class chain. It showed that Otter’s Class have many talents. These include: being brave, good at reading, being kind, a good friend, good at maths and sports.

Lacie enjoyed decorating our front covers for our topic books. We stuck pictures of heroes and villains onto the cover.

Next week, we will begin to learn all about these fictional and real life heroes and villains.
